Why it is used
A long-standing desktop rail unit. Narrow enough to sit outside the content column on most layouts, which is why publishers with fixed-width designs still support it.
What to watch for
Demand is materially thinner than for 300x250 or 300x600, so fill rates run lower and it often goes unsold. Many advertisers no longer produce the creative at all, which means supporting the slot does not guarantee filling it.
File weight for standard display is commonly specified at around 150 KB initial load, but publisher specs vary and the figure that governs is always the one written into the insertion order. Check it before trafficking rather than after a creative is rejected.
